God alone is Sovereign

1 Chronicles 29:11

Yours, O LORD, is the greatness and the power and the glory and the victory and the majesty, for all that is in the heavens and in the earth is yours. Yours is the kingdom, O LORD, and you are exalted as head above all.

1 Thessalonians 5:12-13

Not only are we to come under submission and respect those who are our elders who are living today, but we should not ignore those who have passed on to glory. We should know our forefathers God has used down the history of time. Everything should be filtered through Scripture and obeyed, even Scripture which tells us to respect and listen to those who labor above us. I can think of no higher from of respect than to read and learn about those who have passed on to life in Christ.

A great way to start is to learn about John Calvin (500th Birthday this year) here. http://www.theaterofgod.com/

I’ve listened to the first two sessions (Julius Kim and Doug Wilson) which are very good. Also John Calvin’s Institutes of the Christian Religion can be downloaded for free here http://reformed.org/master/index.html?mainframe=/books/institutes/

For any who think learning about John Calvin will create Calvinist and that will kill evangelism let me quote one of the greatest preachers of all times – Charles Sprugeon who was a Calvinist said this: "Have you no wish for others to be saved? Then you're not saved yourself, be sure of that!"

Our duty is to know and delight in God and make Him known throughout the whole world.
